Language Use and Personality during Covid-19: Analyses of President Jokowi’s Press Conference
From March to April this year, Coronavirus pandemic in Indonesia increase continuously, starting from March 2, 2020, to April 20, 2020, 6,760 positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed with 747 cases recovering and 590 cases have died. In response to this pandemic, the President of Indonesia delivered his statement in a press conference some time ago. One strategy by which to consider singular contrasts is to investigate the common utilization of the language of a person. Jokowi's utilization of language was estimated from his public interviews between the Covid-19 emergencies in 2020. This research aims to analyze the construction of language use and personality from the psychological variables point of view on Jokowi's speech at a press conference during Covid-19. The text file was organized for transcription LIWC analysis to calculate the percentage of clout, analytical, and authentic variables that Jokowi uses. LIWC scores were connected with language dimension and psychology issues. These findings indicated that signiﬁcant changes in his semantic style were found in the manners identiﬁed with others, communicated feelings, and displayed intellectual unpredictability. Suggestions for utilizing an investigation of semantic styles to comprehend character are examined.
