The Treatment From Batak Family Towards The Elderly (Case Study, The Picture Of Life Of Batak Elderly In North Sumatra, Indonesia)
The purpose of this research is to see the treatment from Batak Family Treatment towards the Elderly and want to develop the cultural potential of the local community in viewing and empowering the elderly. This research used a phenomenological qualitative approach, which was carried out in three Batak villages. Huta Cinta Mulia Village, Sub-Disctrict/Nagori Laras Dua, Siantar District represents Batak Simalungun; Lumban Suhi-Suhi Toruan Village, Pangururan District represents Batak Toba; and Padangsidempuan represents Batak Mandailing, Indonesia. This research uses the help of data collection tools in the form of participant observation and in-depth interviews with the elderly. As a qualitative approach, the concept of native point of view will be the strength of this research. Informants are selected based on purposive methods, in order to get a broader picture. The results of the research found that Batak elderly was an independent elderly; Batak culture shows that they are very respectful of parents or the elderly. Respect is done when they live and after they die. For Batak family, the elderly are people who must be respected and for Batak people, nursing homes are not needed for the elderly who have a family. But for elderly who do not have family, nursing homes are very necessary.
